Maps of Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok

You will probably face a need to buy a map during your stay in Novosibirsk. Its paper version can be purchased in absolute majority of bookstores, but it is written in Russian. So, foreigners may struggle through finding their ways when using this map. Thus, we have decided to draw a couple of maps which would be of help to English speakers (click on image to enlarge it).

Overview of Novosibirsk and its areas
From the reconnaissance type of map drawn below you may learn that the density of buildings inside the city area is very low, which leaves plenty of space for plants and trees, not to speak about suburbs. At the southern tip of the city there stretches a water reservoir called the River Ob by local citizens. In summer, many beaches, located on its shoreline, provide different outdoor activities. In winter, you can enjoy mountain ski resorts inside the city as well as those which you can get to only by means of transportation.

There can be singled out several conventional zones in Novosibirsk. The Central area (Центральный район) and the Railroad city area (Железнодорожный район) including several blocks encompassing underground stations ‘Lenin’s Square’ and ‘Krasny Prospekt’ form the downtown. The business center zone is located at the intersection of the Central area and the Oktyabrskiy area (Октябрьский район) as well as in the surroundings of the underground stations ‘Marx’ Square’ and ‘Studentcheskaya’. The latter station is also a center of the campus life like Akademgorodok. Delinquent zones are the Pervomayskiy area and ОбьГЭС [ob’-‘gues]. Other abovementioned areas are quite safe.
