Routes for Promenade Excursions

Beginning of Sovetskaya str. – intersection of Gogolya str. and Sovetskaya str. –intersection of Gogolya str. and Krasny Prospect – Lenin’s Square
If you start your trip at the cathedral of Saint Alexander Nevskiy and then go down Sovetskaya street almost to its end you will be able to behold practically all of the Novosibirsk’s short history reflected in its architecture. Almost every block represents a different époque – here are the buildings of the times of the great Russian Empire, there are the bulky buildings of the twenties, Stalin’s Empire Style houses, and those built during WWII; puritanically unpretentious buildings of the following era, and typical provincial houses of the late Soviet period, office buildings, and, finally, modern business centers – all can be found here in the chronological order. When you reach Gogolya street turn to the right and make for Krasny Prospect. Now, if you go down Krasny Prospect in the opposite direction, you will see the real life of the city, especially, if it is early evening. Shops, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, all major party places are here. You can finish your ‘on feet excursion’ by jumping in one of the cafes scattered around the Lenin’s Square.

This root crosses the central part of the city. It would be interesting to see how Novosibirsk is organized and how it is developing from this ‘angle’.

Akademgorodok: hotel ‘Zolotaya Dolina’ (situated at Ilyicha street) – intersection of Ilyicha str. and Morskoy Prospect – intersection of Morskoy Prospect and Lavrentyeva Prospect – Lavrentyeva Prospect
It’s hard to give advice on any particular root to follow in Akademgorodok, since all its streets are unique. You will see all its major streets by walking accordingly to the plan written above. Besides, Lavrentyeva Prospect is famous for all kinds of different institutes. It would be quite logical for a young person to have a look at one of numerous nightclubs situated at the end of this street – from inside, of course.
